...Oh, deities. I'm guessing this "source" mentioned here is who everyone keeps talking about lately.
Source? [Korra's not entirely sure what Mako's talking about, but context clues.] Uh, yeah. Just before you arrived, there was a revolution. These people calling themselves "Anonymous" overthrew the deities.
Deities are just another kind of spirit. [While gods and spirits may seem all-powerful to normal people, to Korra they're just another part of the world (admittedly one she has little experience with). Strong, to be respected, but not all-powerful or anything like that.]
Anyway. Whatever they are, they look like they're gone.
[Something about that tone bothers him.] Korra, these guys who'd been ruling over you just got overthrown. You need to find out who they are, not just give in to their anonymity and call it a day.
[She feels like he's reaching into her gut and ripping out her insides.]

[She can just imagine how he sees her -- stupid, lazy, pathetic, incompetent. She should be out there, trying to figure out what's going on, trying to help people. That's the Avatar's job, and she's still the Avatar, even without her powers.
Look how well that turned out last time. She lost her powers. Didn't actually capture Amon. Even in the City, all of her attempts to help have been less than useless. She couldn't stop the Loki riots. She tried to save a child from a prostitution ring and not only failed to save the kid, but brought the wrath of that organization down on her. She can't even protect herself from random, senseless violence.
She moves to grab her cane, just to have something to hold onto, a safety blanket against shame.]

You're right, I don't. But every time I ask someone about the way this place works, all I get is, "I don't know, it can't be explained, that's the way it is." I can't believe that applies to the people who run the place, too! There have to be some big shot detectives around here somewhere.
[She gets her fingers on the cane, but fumbles and it slides under her bed, just out of reach. Monkey feathered arctic sea hen-- She's not going to cry. She's not going to give him the satisfaction. (That's not fair but she doesn't care.]
