Korra is from the Haida Nation. The stars vanished when she was 7 years old and she became a contractor. Her power is the ability to control things on a quantum level, and her price is to dance. She's developed a series of martial arts forms that allow her to control various elements while being sufficiently dance-like to fulfill her price.
While shamanism as a religion has declined in the modern era, when Korra became a contractor, she was given the title of shaman. Her tribe was aware that people with powers like Korra's were being forced into the service of governments and international criminal organizations, so they did their best to keep her existence a secret.
Yet Korra believes that there has to be some reason she's been given these abilities.
Her messier code is NC-108 ("NC" is a color code for "natural", 108 is a sacred number in many eastern religions)
